Discover probably the most beautiful National Park in Western Romania, a perfect destination for those looking to explore unique turquoise lakes and the amazing waterfalls of Banat. Forests, cliffs, caves, hills and ravines along with the 20km long gorge, make this place a natural wonder, a must-visit when travelling to Romania.
Located in southwestern Romania, Caraș-Severin county, the National Park is a protected area of more than 36.000 acres. Our journey starts in Timisoara and continues towards Oravița, which is the closest city to the National Park. From here, after a 30-minute drive, we will park our car and start the beautiful hike toward the heart of the National Park. After a 30-minute walk, we reach our first stop – La Văioaga Waterfall. Here we will spend several minutes enjoying this magnificent place and listening to the sound of the water plunging into the river. From here to our next stop – Ochiul Bei Lake – we will have a 1-hour easy hike after which we’ll stop to admire the beautiful turquoise colour of the lake that never freezes and talk about the legend of the lake. Fifteen minutes later we will arrive at the spectacular Beusnita waterfall and take photos from all angles of the moss-covered karst waterfall (beware, during summer, the waterfall might be completely dry). Afterwards, we head back to where we left our car and visit the seven tunnels carved inside the mountain, then drive to the restaurant to try some traditional Romanian dishes.
